The beheading of Mohammed Mutawalli, who was deemed by Iraqi terrorists to be an Egyptian spy in Iraq, spying for US military was first announced on an Islamic website on Friday August 13, 2004. The website posted pictures of the beheading and claimed that those were stills from beheading video. Authenticity of an Egyptian spy was not immediately verified, but he was identified as Mohammed Fawzi Abdaal Mutwalli. The pictures carried a caption which read in Arabic language: “From the Arab Republic of Egypt. Mohammed Fawzi Abdaal Mutwalli. I was working as a spy with the Americans in Iraq.”
When family of Mohammed Mutawalli first heard of his beheading, they didn’t have much to say. Mohammed had left them 15 year ago and they haven’t heard from him since. However his dad Fawzi Mutwalli doubts he could be a spy, as Mohammed hadn’t received any education and could not speak English.
Set up for video of Mohammed Mutawalli’s beheading is similar to other beheadings executed on captured foreigners by the terrorists in Iraq. Mohammed Mutawalli is sitting on the floor with three masked terrorists standing behind him with automatic weapons in their hands. Masked man in the middle speaks with raised voice and waves his hands to make a point. There is a banner behind them with symbols of Tawhid and Jihad, which belong to Abu Musab al-Zarqawi of Jordan and his group of militants. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi claimed responsibility for beheading of Mohammed Mutawalli. He’s also responsible for beheading of Nicholas Berg and Kim Sun-il.
Many Muslims spoke against Islamic militants killing other Muslims, but then there were many who spoke in favor of killing those who become allied with the devil. Militants who beheaded Mohammed Mutawalli said that he confessed to setting up electronic devices in locations where Mujahedeen (holy warriors) operated from to help Americans identify such locations. What exactly they mean by “confessed” is anybody’s guess. Exact date of Mohammed Mutawalli’s beheading is unknown.
