Tragic event from Brazil. Veronica Oliveira da Silva – mother of two left her little daughter (age not made public) along with her infant son alone in the wooden shed in Barrio Ayrton Senna where they lived to get milk for the kids from nearby convenience store. While she was gone, a shortcut in faulty electrical wiring resulted in a series of sparks that set the house on fire. When Veronica Oliveira returned, she found her 2 months old baby laid face down on the floor of a burning house with much of his body charred. After she screamed for help, the neighbors called the fire brigade who contained the flames and took the badly burned Kuane Oliveira da Silva to the hospital.
The emergency team from the hospital in Rio Branco admitted the baby in a very serious condition, estimating that he suffered between 70% to 75% burns to his body. Many of the burns were of 3rd degree. After the initial care, the baby was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Children’s Hospital, however the health professionals stated that the burns were so severe, even if the baby were to survive, it would likely end up with both upper and lower limbs amputated.
This all happened in late hours of Tuesday, August 23, 2011. Unfortunately, just as I started writing this post, an update came from Brazil that the baby succumbed to his injuries and died in the hospital under intensive care. RIP little Kuane Oliveira da Silva. You were too little to even start enjoying your journey on Earth.

You don’t leave two children, let alone one, if they both are not old enough to run, talk, dial 911, and know to go to a neighbor’s house to even run out to your car for one minute!

Poor little one was lucky to die. I know someone who survived a fire when he was 3 years old, but was badly scarred. No one wants to be around him, because he looks disgusting (yup, neither do I, what can I say).
We humans are superficial scum, that’s just the way it is. So people who survive with burns and cuts and many scars are the unlucky ones.
They are also in pain for the rest of their lives. I could handle the scars but I can see where it would be hard for other people to.

What life would he have had without arms or legs and how much might he have grown to resent his brain-dead mother. Even unable to work he’d have lived in poverty, possibly reduced to begging. This things use to happend primarily because some people stole electricity. If it were for free (till a rate enough to cover basic needs), precary homes would be legally connected to the net, so many accidents would be prevented.
