Having claimed 358 lives, the Honduras Prison Fire which ravaged through the Comayagua Prison on February 15, 2012 is considered the world’s worst prison fire in a hundred years. The Comayagua Prison where the fire broke out was overcrowded, with inadequate fire safety and slowly responding guards. Many inmates who lost their lives there were locked up for petty crimes.
Central American countries, including Honduras are plagued with drug trafficking, gang wars and out-of-control street crime. Wide spread poverty only makes the matters worse. Expectedly, prisons are over their capacity, crammed with many times the number of inmates they can safely handle. Add to it the fact that they are not built with safety of inmates in mind and you have a disaster waiting to happen.
It was originally reported that as many as 382 people died in the February 15, 2012 Honduras Prison Fire, but the figure was later lowered, clarifying that 353 corpses were recovered from the scene, with five more succumbing to their injuries at a hospital.
The fire was started by an inmate who lit up his mattress, but spread quickly across many cells while rescuers searched endlessly for the only set of keys to the facility. With 852 inmates locked up at the Comayagua Prison, but only 6 guards on duty, the response to the emergency was very slow. The matter were worsened by the fact that the only prison guard who had the keys fled, leaving hundreds of screaming inmates dying of suffocation and severe burns with no means to escape the inferno.
Honduras’ National Party congressman Renan Inestroza stated that each country’s prison is overcrowded and served by guards not trained to handle emergency situations. Should fire break out in any other prison in Honduras, the outcome would likely be the same. This latest incident was Honduras’ third deadly prison fire in a decade.

Burn’t alive with no escape……… FUCK THAT
thats gotta be one of the worst ways to go
and painful too
I wonder how many ass rapes were interupted by thios fire
awtzzz
Now thems is some crispy critters.
I feel sorry for any mother fucker who was there that was:
Truly innocent
Near the end of their sentence
Or serving for some petty crime.
As a memorial to these brave criminals I light my bong and space out to some Pink Floyd
here, here! a fitting tribute. love me some druggy pink floyd music. pink is awesome.
Here! Here! To PINK FLOYD…and the crispy criminal ones too
for me, they all deserves it
Everybody in prison is innocent. It just depends on what they were innocent of
Yeah kinda feel bad since theres alot of corruption there so some real innocent people are sent there if they argue and protest against the government there or who evers in control, I was talking about this matter with my mom (who loves gore stuff oddly enough) and we came to a agreement that this was just the tip of the iceberg of what was to come. The reason why the prison was set on fire was because the government was tired of having to pay to feed these guys and pay for holding them there, they figured it was better getting rid of the scum and start new, as weeks passed there have been more prison fires in other hispanic countries following the first. I say the next one is gonna be here in the U.S
Well i guess the prison gaurds will be Fired for that.
Or given a raise.
I was hoping somone would get the pun…
They will also get glowing reports.
On this ember-assing event
What prison guards? In third world prisons the inmates are the guards
How punny. But as for the guards actually getting fired, some part of me highly doubts anyone there will be given any sort of punishment. It’s sad really.
I hope they get a flaming from sombody anyhow, i was quite ashen-faced when i saw this
I can only imagine the smell
I wouldnt want too
“DON’T SHOOT, LET EM BURN!!!”
lol totally inappropriate, but excellent movie
saving private ryan referene? lol thats what came across my mind when i read that
no thats a BBQ,thats what i`m talking about..by the way it`s cheaper than feeding them…
hahaha so true
this would possibly be worse than that Russian fire posted the other day? to be trapped in a cramped cell, probably claustrophobic without the fire is a hell of a way to die. I suppose if they didnt break the law they wouldnt be inside, and I heard there were many murderers, armed robbers, rapists etc,the jails are so full in Honduras they dont worry about jailing petty crims, also the people that didnt die escaped from jail!
i would prefer being trapped in a building with so many ways of escape than in a closed cell door which probably leave you to burn alive
It’l take 100 years and 10 people on square metres before civilized countries start considering that crowd control method
terrible way to go but now that they are gone they are at rest and don’t feel ANYTHING . comfortably numb for eternity. yea! that’s the ticket. how many of us will end up with a peaceful death do you think? dying in our sleep is a fantasy for most of us.
For myself, I picture violence.
Just the way I have always envisioned my demise.
Good chance suicide or car crash.
I’mm almost 34, and it’s been like that for about 20 years.
Been head fucked for quite some time.
But time will tell, just hope I have a Best Gore sign around my neck at the time, so the site can have the BEST fansign of all time.
why would you do that to your wife?
She doesn’t like to hear it, so I try not to talk about it around her.
Thing is, all this started a long time before I met her, and, it is truely a part of what I have become.
All this plays a role why her and I are more friends than husband and wife.
Just married too soon.
1 year to the day that we met.
I wish I hadn’t had done that, and so does she.
I have always veiw myself as a temporary thing.
Ready to go at any time I am.
I work in the time I’m here, I’m attractive (so I’ve been told most my life) and I like the things that I like.
However, there really is nothing holding me here, not even her.
Not my family, but most importantly, not myself.
Most are anchored to themselves, it keeps them committed to life and it causes all the disbeleif when death comes around.
Death took her grandmother the other day, se is sad, and I, am simply envyus.
It seems so very unfair, for good reason. Because it is.
She loves me, and I do care for her, or else I wouldn’t put up with so much of her shit.
But I am this thing that I have tried to figure out, talk through, explain and discribe.
I try to be honest with things, but in the end, I just don’t care about much anymore.
I sucessfully murdered that part of me long ago, and, somewhat to my surprize, it actually worked.
I just don’t care about much anymore, and so many things annoy me.
Capital punishment, anyone? Think these fellas might’ve opted for Ol’ Sparky, or even lethal injection? No matter. We all owe a death however it comes.
But for real, this is tragic. No man deserves to die like that.
On the bright side, the population has been brought down to a safer number.
There once was a fellow named Chuck,
Who grew tired of being locked up.
In a moment of rage,
Lit his mattress ablaze,
Now he and his homies are fucked.
That’s one way to take out the trash!
true dat
usher agreed with you “let it burn”
BREAKING NEWS:the new ghost rider casting ended tragically
i’m sure not all of them deserved to die like that, and i feel bad for them o.< bad way to go.
no, i feel they do
one of the most painful ways to die. i rather be shot by a gun in the head or something
Id rather be skinned alive while listening to Justin Beiber then set on fire .
They actually torture and kill people like that in Mexico…true story, Narcos can’t stand the beib
one ‘narco’ had a huge mural of Justin Beiber painted in his compound, so maybe some of them like him!?
Holy shit I thought you were joking about the Justin bieber Narco mural, it true tho and guess where this gayass dope dealer was from…you guessed it BRAZIL
….with hundreds of gallons of pure lemmon juice being squirted from a high pressure hose mixed with saltrocks onto the freshly ripped opened gapping wounds….
that is cruel ,skinned and burned i can understand…
hahahahahaha! wtf
Paul Bunyan’s version of carnitas.
A petty crime is still a crime. There’s no way to justify an intentional crime. Some people might say, “I think he’s up there now smiling down at us.” Well, let’s be fucking realistic here when we say Grandma’s down there now screaming up at us, baking pies without an oven.
At least the prison will have a good clean up now.
who gives a fuck they were all criminals that’s what you get if you break the law
That adds up to only about a teaspoon of bleach in the gene pool!!!
Was the entire prison made of wood?
How does a mattress turn into the entire prison burning down?
right!
Are you thinking the jail is made of steel and concrete? I suppose the blankets will burn, along with wooden shelving, books, clothing, the paint on the walls! all of their ‘stuff’ will burn, and it’s the embers, 1000′s of them which spread and start new little fires all over the place.
I hope the stupid mother fucker that lit the fire fried along with his victims.
Most of them whether in prison or not are dirt bags, Fuck ‘em.
it’s just a matter of luck. they all have been given chances
I guess once your in a situation like this the most you could hope for is that the smoke gets you first
It would have helped to just take deep breaths and relax….into eternity.
Well that just saved a shit load of taxpayer money
Exactly!!
They don’t pay taxes in central america
‘They’, most definitely do pay taxes.
The people in that neighborhood will be heaving a sigh of relief at the death of all those criminals in their midst.
more crims escaped than died! maybe they wont be feelin’ so safe?
The fire must have been part of their elaborate escape plan then!
Hahaha, good riddance.
LOL, yes it’d suck to burn in your cell, but you guys forget that in these countries there are at least 20 people on each cell, I picture the stronger beating and throwing the weak into the fire first until the last man standing gets to burn; maybe some felt the flames while still being raped for the last time.
one thing for sure they won’t rape , kill or commit crimes again yes some people said burning alive is the worst way to go but you need to remember that a lot of them have killed innocent victims
so for those ones i don’t feel bad at all
however its a shame to die like this if you only been jail for steeling or small offences
A lot of those in there ae gang members phuc em all!
the problem isn’t poverty or that it’s overcrowded, it’s that there’s flammable mattresses in there. if they slept on concrete there wouldn’t be this problem
I’ll bring the marshmellows
The state couldn’t afford the prison and lit it on fire, lol.
It was good it was a prison than a hospital or orphanage.
Drug Cartel Members, Rapist, Murderers, Etc, Etc. Couldn’t happen to a better crew.
