Honduras Prison Fire Photos and Video

Having claimed 358 lives, the Honduras Prison Fire which ravaged through the Comayagua Prison on February 15, 2012 is considered the world’s worst prison fire in a hundred years. The Comayagua Prison where the fire broke out was overcrowded, with inadequate fire safety and slowly responding guards. Many inmates who lost their lives there were locked up for petty crimes.

Central American countries, including Honduras are plagued with drug trafficking, gang wars and out-of-control street crime. Wide spread poverty only makes the matters worse. Expectedly, prisons are over their capacity, crammed with many times the number of inmates they can safely handle. Add to it the fact that they are not built with safety of inmates in mind and you have a disaster waiting to happen.

It was originally reported that as many as 382 people died in the February 15, 2012 Honduras Prison Fire, but the figure was later lowered, clarifying that 353 corpses were recovered from the scene, with five more succumbing to their injuries at a hospital.

The fire was started by an inmate who lit up his mattress, but spread quickly across many cells while rescuers searched endlessly for the only set of keys to the facility. With 852 inmates locked up at the Comayagua Prison, but only 6 guards on duty, the response to the emergency was very slow. The matter were worsened by the fact that the only prison guard who had the keys fled, leaving hundreds of screaming inmates dying of suffocation and severe burns with no means to escape the inferno.

Honduras’ National Party congressman Renan Inestroza stated that each country’s prison is overcrowded and served by guards not trained to handle emergency situations. Should fire break out in any other prison in Honduras, the outcome would likely be the same. This latest incident was Honduras’ third deadly prison fire in a decade.

  1. I feel sorry for any mother fucker who was there that was:
    Truly innocent
Near the end of their sentence
Or serving for some petty crime.

As a memorial to these brave criminals I light my bong and space out to some Pink Floyd

    • Yeah kinda feel bad since theres alot of corruption there so some real innocent people are sent there if they argue and protest against the government there or who evers in control, I was talking about this matter with my mom (who loves gore stuff oddly enough) and we came to a agreement that this was just the tip of the iceberg of what was to come. The reason why the prison was set on fire was because the government was tired of having to pay to feed these guys and pay for holding them there, they figured it was better getting rid of the scum and start new, as weeks passed there have been more prison fires in other hispanic countries following the first. I say the next one is gonna be here in the U.S

  2. this would possibly be worse than that Russian fire posted the other day? to be trapped in a cramped cell, probably claustrophobic without the fire is a hell of a way to die. I suppose if they didnt break the law they wouldnt be inside, and I heard there were many murderers, armed robbers, rapists etc,the jails are so full in Honduras they dont worry about jailing petty crims, also the people that didnt die escaped from jail!

  3. terrible way to go but now that they are gone they are at rest and don’t feel ANYTHING . comfortably numb for eternity. yea! that’s the ticket. how many of us will end up with a peaceful death do you think? dying in our sleep is a fantasy for most of us.

    • For myself, I picture violence.
Just the way I have always envisioned my demise.
Good chance suicide or car crash.
I’mm almost 34, and it’s been like that for about 20 years.
Been head fucked for quite some time.
But time will tell, just hope I have a Best Gore sign around my neck at the time, so the site can have the BEST fansign of all time.

        • She doesn’t like to hear it, so I try not to talk about it around her.
Thing is, all this started a long time before I met her, and, it is truely a part of what I have become.

All this plays a role why her and I are more friends than husband and wife.
          Just married too soon.
1 year to the day that we met.
I wish I hadn’t had done that, and so does she.

I have always veiw myself as a temporary thing.
Ready to go at any time I am.
I work in the time I’m here, I’m attractive (so I’ve been told most my life) and I like the things that I like.

However, there really is nothing holding me here, not even her.
Not my family, but most importantly, not myself.

Most are anchored to themselves, it keeps them committed to life and it causes all the disbeleif when death comes around.
Death took her grandmother the other day, se is sad, and I, am simply envyus.

It seems so very unfair, for good reason. Because it is.
She loves me, and I do care for her, or else I wouldn’t put up with so much of her shit.

But I am this thing that I have tried to figure out, talk through, explain and discribe.
I try to be honest with things, but in the end, I just don’t care about much anymore.

I sucessfully murdered that part of me long ago, and, somewhat to my surprize, it actually worked.

I just don’t care about much anymore, and so many things annoy me.

  4. Capital punishment, anyone? Think these fellas might’ve opted for Ol’ Sparky, or even lethal injection? No matter. We all owe a death however it comes.
But for real, this is tragic. No man deserves to die like that.
On the bright side, the population has been brought down to a safer number.
There once was a fellow named Chuck,
Who grew tired of being locked up.
    In a moment of rage,
    Lit his mattress ablaze,
Now he and his homies are fucked.

  5. A petty crime is still a crime. There’s no way to justify an intentional crime. Some people might say, “I think he’s up there now smiling down at us.” Well, let’s be fucking realistic here when we say Grandma’s down there now screaming up at us, baking pies without an oven.

  6. LOL, yes it’d suck to burn in your cell, but you guys forget that in these countries there are at least 20 people on each cell, I picture the stronger beating and throwing the weak into the fire first until the last man standing gets to burn; maybe some felt the flames while still being raped for the last time.

  7. one thing for sure they won’t rape , kill or commit crimes again yes some people said burning alive is the worst way to go but you need to remember that a lot of them have killed innocent victims
so for those ones i don’t feel bad at all

however its a shame to die like this if you only been jail for steeling or small offences

  8. the problem isn’t poverty or that it’s overcrowded, it’s that there’s flammable mattresses in there. if they slept on concrete there wouldn’t be this problem
