Mexican Man Commits Peaceful Suicide by Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

This is easily one of the most peaceful suicides we’ve had on Best Gore so far. For the victim the outcome is the same as a blast in the head with a shotgun or a leap from a bridge, but carbon monoxide in vehicle exhaust fumes can get it done without leaving you awkwardly disfigured or creating bloody mess.

49 year old Raul Cordero Améstica from Tapachula in Chiapas, Mexico worked as an agent for the Instituto Nacional de Migración (National Migration Institute). He was married and had two sons aged 9 and 11. One day he left home for work the same way he used to for years, but never returned. Instead, Raul Cordero drove to a hotel called Libramiento Sur Orient, rented a room, ordered a meal, put a hose connected to his car’s exhaust pipe in through the window, started the engine, locked the door behind himself and kicked back on the bed to die in solitude by inhaling the carbon monoxide filled air.

Later when hotel staff noticed the maroon Nissan Sentra running with hose connecting its exhaust pipe with Room #8, they knocked on the door but there was no answer. Receptionist alarmed the hotel manager who used the duplicate key to open the door only to find the man who checked in earlier laid dead on the bed.

The police searched the hotel room for a suicide note but found none. In the man’s wallet was an ID card issued by the Federal Electoral Institute and a driver’s license both bearing the name of Raul Cordero Améstica, resident of Tapachula on #15 Calle Acacias, del Fraccionamiento Laureles 1. So the police drove there and spoke with the man’s wife who identified him as her husband.

The widow told the police her husband never mentioned suicide nor indicated intentions to commit one and left that day to go to work the same way he has for years. She’d had no idea this was going to be the last time she was gonna see him alive. That’s some brain fuck right there.

  1. I’d not want to go like this. Call me weird, but I’d rather know death was coming and know the exact second I was gonna check out. But I still want painlessness. Death by being hit on the head by a giant anvil? Maybe that’ll do it.

    1. Pretty eazy way to go, but this guy would have had the WORST headache of his life (like head in a vise) than lights out. Most carbon monoxide poisonings victims have a cherry red like appearance, they must have found this guy rather quickly.

      1. Hey, I never heard that before, I had heard it was painless. Could the headache not occur when someone’s unconscious already? (Um, maybe that does sound a bit stupid.) I also think it helped that the guy had an old car because the exhaust pipe was easy to attach a hose to and the car didn’t have the modern exhaust filters which are said to make suicide by carbon monoxyde more difficult.

I can never figure that out…it must have taken so much exhaust gas to fill up the whole room. If that guy had put a plastic bag over his head, it would be a lot quicker and more economic I guess. But it doesn’t look very cool.

Death by carbon monoxyde also occurs accidentally, for example when people barbecue inside a tent ( which also creates risk of fire).

      2. I almost died once of carbon monoxide poisoning. I didn’t feel a thing….i got dizzy and fell on my knees. Before I had the chance to cry for help I was out. No pain. No headake. I woke up when they were putting me in the ambulance. I started to hear voices, then I started to see but I couldn’t recognize colors. My legs were convulsing and that really hurt. After a night in the hospital, hooked on oxigen, and some serious vomiting I was fine!

  2. I don’t like this suicide method for the sheer fact that it is so easy to accidentally take good samaritans with you. Luckily this time there was an obvious hose, but for people who use other methods to generate deadly gas they can sometimes gas people who come to try and help them. I disagree with any suicide method that has the potential to take other, useful, people of value in society with them.

  3. These Mexican hotels are built for ultimate privacy, they’re almost like mini condos, no halls or doors interconnect the rooms and each room comes with its own garage and the room is usually located above it, you can see why hotels like this would be a favorite amongst drug dealers, married cheaters, and suicidal saps like the one featured here.
