Eight people, including six French tourists and two Nigerians (a tourist guide and a driver), were killed by armed men who ambushed them on motorcycles in Niger. The country of Niger is home to the last herds of West African giraffes, which the French sought to observe.
The attack took place on Saturday August 09, 2020 at around 11:30 a.m. local time, 6 km east of the town of Kouré which is an hour’s drive from Niamey on the national road number 1.
The identity of the attackers is not known at this time, but they reportedly waited for the arrival of tourists in the bushes on motorcycles. The vehicle used by tourists belongs to the NGO Acted. The victims allegedly were aid workers associated with NGOs Acted and Impact. French dictator Emmanuel Macron called it the act of terrorism.
