At least two people died, including a 9-month-old infant, and nine others were seriously burned when a gas leak at the Coopegas LPG station caused a fire and later an explosion that affected the communities located on the highway La Peña and Limonal Arriba de Licey al Medio near Santiago in the Dominican Republic. The incident took place on the morning of Saturday, October 3, 2020.
Authorities identified the fatalities as 66-year-old Francisco Trinidad (nicknamed el Gago), a gas bottler who was found face down charred, and the infant Braylin Ulloa, who died at his parents’ residence. A vehicle that was in business was consumed by flames.
Meanwhile, the spouses Nilson Reyes, Juana Bisonó, 70 and 65, Julissa Ortíz, Samuel Ulloa, Juan Francisco Santos and Griselda Padilla and three minors aged 2, 11 and 15 were seriously burned. All needed to be hospitalized.
The residence of Nilson and Juana is next to the LPG station and was destroyed by the shock wave of the explosion.
