Being a Kantian-Hegelian-Marxist I assess the national anthems of the different nations while drunk so as to determine the degree to which they succeed in capturing the procession of the Weltgeist. There are three kinds of national anthems: (1) the downright ridiculous and hideous such the toilet anthem of the United States; (ii) the insular anthems such as the Austrian and the Swedish which refuse to engage mit dem Weltgeist, and finally (iii) the great Kulturnationen deeply conscious of their Woher and Wohin. I left out the regular German anthem because both the Germans and the Habsburg Austrians fought over it. My personal favourite is the Italian; I want to live for a nation like that and not have my brains blown out while struggling for my shitty Vaterland. In terms of lyrical merits, no song beats the East German and the Baathist:

      These 6 nations are:

      Italy
      Spain
      Germany (East)
      China
      Russia
      Iraq (Baathist)

I love the joie de vivre of us Catholics. We want to live! The Spaniards and the Italians capture that; why do the Catholics of Austria fail?

The wonderful Italian composer Piero Umiliani first performed the Swedish National Anthem “Mah Nà Mah Nà” on the soundtrack of the fabulous 1960’s Italian lesbian travelogue documentary/ sexploitation film “Sweden – Hell or Heaven” (“Svezia, inferno e paradiso’). This was the first time the song had been heard outside Sweden and it was used to soundtrack a group of Swedish Lesbians having a sauna together. Lesbianism is a national pastime in Sweden rather like Reindeer Hunting, sledging or eating meatballs. Many people credit this section of the movie and the use of the Swedish National Anthem with the popularisation of Kipper Licking, Fisting and Scissoring among the cock-haters of the world.

Myself… I think the spread of popular lesbianism from Sweden across the world had been a pleasant distraction and a valuable addition to some specific fapping websites as well as to Porn in general. Variety is the spice of Life.
Many people thought this song was written by Fozzy Bear and Animal of The Muppets… but it wasn’t.

@lord-wankdust You are Scottish (?) and I think you should try to do justice your great nation rather than behaving like a Yank on bath salts. By the way, I really liked some of your replies to YOUNGHITLER the dumb Yank. You talk lots of sense; just don’t try to challenge my knowledge of German philosophy; that’s what I get paid for.

Of course one of the greatest bands to ever record National Anthems was of course Scotland’s own Sensational Alex Harvey Band. They recorded Jaques Brel’s famous French National Anthem “Next” which was written shortly after World War One and features the tale of a young soldier fighting for France whose bravery and devotion to La France is repayed by his Government sending a Mobile Army Whorehouse on trucks to the Front Line where his unit is fighting. All the soldiers get to line up, take their turn and jizz their seed up one of the bifurcations on offer.

Alex Harvey was a gifted interpreter of National Anthems.

Of course Sir Alex Harvey and his Sensational Band were well known for their evocative and sensitive rendering of “Tomorrow Belongs To Me” the German National Anthem. Made popular in in the “Cabaret” movie Alex brought a new Kraut-ness to it with his clipped and gutteral Scottish tones.

There was no stopping Sir Alex Harvey and his talented band of merry minstrels.

If European National Anthems held no boundaries for Sir Alex Harvey and his Sensational Band then the United States were simply a piece of piss. On this rare unwatermarked clip we find Sir Alex and his Band running through their top 10 hit single version of the National Anthem of The USA “The Boston Tea Party”. Written by Paul Revere shortly after his famous ride. Perhaps the greatest National Anthem ever written. This is lovely and much better than Whitney Houston’s version.

      Well…. are you going?

        I’m going! 😀

Great music choices, and I hope some random bath salt connoisseur may find a a few minutes of happiness in these fine compositions. I know I did, minus the bath salts of course. *smiles wistfully*

Of course it took The success of The Smiths to really popularise the English National Anthem “The Queen Is Dead”. The video film to accompany it was produced and directed by top bummer and analist Derek Jarman. This video also re-popularised the art of spray paint graffiti which was on the wane at the time. The Queen of England quickly became popular again and Princess Diana also got quite famous… though after The Smiths split in 1987… the Royal family and Royalty were never really popular again. This culminated in the Death of a Princess in 1997 but the Smiths version of The English National Anthem “The Queen Is Dead” still appears on their Greatest Hits Collections.

      Lovely.

The Welsh National Anthem “pwmp cariad” (which roughly translates into English as “Bing Bong”) was given update in order to appeal to young people by top Welsh Pop Combo “The Super Furry Animals”. It was released just in time for the football World Cup which Wales traditionally fail to qualify for every four years. Wales as a country loves traditions like Rugby, Football, Leeks, Coal Mining, Sheep-Shagging and Dragons.

      Love Wales.

@lord-wankdust this one was genuinely risible. But you need to tell me: are you Scottish?

@alois “this one was genuinely risible.”

No. What was genuinely risible was the German and East European KrapKrautMusik you posted at the start of the thread. There is something strange and out-of-character that happens to me when listening to such sub-Wagnerian horse-piss… it just makes me want to put on my leather boots, invade Poland, take a shit in a Warsaw Church and gas people and stuff like that.

The greatest of Scottish Singers the late, great Kenneth McKellar sings his X-Rated version of The Ball of Kirriemuir, while not the proper Scottish National Anthem is certainly the National Anthem of The Mearns, Kinraddie and Blawearie.

My father once sprayed a mouthful of whisky the length of the living room when he was played this on a cassette tape by me in 1981. For a time this track was thought not to exist anymore, someone found the master… and here it is for all to enjoy… not just the parishioners of Auchendrearie.

“They were fucking in the bathroom, fucking on the stairs
Ye could nae see the carpet for the spunk and curly hairs…”

@lord-wankdust just don’t fucking tell me you support Rangers. I studied for a whole year at the uni of Hull.

If you studied at Hull then you will know that Hull is in England. The last time anyone noticed… Rangers are a Scottish Team from Glasgow. Glasgow in Scotland.
You have a confused discourse. Shift yourself back to first principles and try not to confuse the two different countries.

Of course forget Bjork… we gotta check out Mr Iceland himself Magnus Þór Sigmundsson who wrote the greatest National Anthem on Earth with “Íslandsklukkur”.

Altogether now “H…oooom!“. I am an eighty-strong choir of wing-helmeted Viking and Alban Seafarers all H…oooom!-ing together in my living-room just now. Then we are off to explore Newfoundland and Baffin, fight some fucking Polar Bears, Tunit and Eskimos and then fuck off to Vinland for Spring.

Fucking epic. A country that can produce a National Anthem like that could rule the world. Fuck the East German Concrete De-Composers and the Gay Spanish Bull-Wankers. This is North European Explorer Music and the sound of The Far-Farers… West Viking!

Everyone hates the awful U2 – but who would have thought that their golden classic “Sunday, Bloody Sunday” would be knocked off the Oirish National Anthem spot by the current Oirish National Anthem?
It is performed by a band which reflects Ireland’s dark and murky Celtic past. The band’s performance is full of the antics of Tuatha Dé Danann, the mad raving Cú Chulainn and of course the totally bonkers Fionn mac Cumhaill (often rendered as “Finn MacCool”). While we can all wipe the sweaty fear off our collective brows in the certain knowledge that those mythological bampot tribes and characters are looong dead… it is true to say that occasionally these days when the Oirish are cutting peats out in the boglands, the odd (and incredibly well-preserved) corpse from 3,000 years ago rolls out. These bodies are known as Bog Bodies or Bog Men.
The new Oirish National Anthem was created from a Rock and Roll Classic by the pop beat combo called “The Bog Men”. Their fame moved at glacier-like speed from being an obscure and little known underground legendary combo to simply being a little known underground legendary combo.

“…Was it for this the clay grew tall?
      What made fatuous sunbeams toil,
To break Earth’s sleep at all?”
