Hello fans of quality gore,
Best Gore has reached major milestone and we’re going to celebrate by sharing the success with you all. Towards the end of last week, the website got torturously sluggish due to increasingly growing popularity. I have immediately reacted by started working towards server upgrade. The website is now hosted on a two processor dedicated server with four times as much RAM as it had before and all other hardware upgraded for much better performance. Speed issues should be resolved now and website much more responsive and faster in all aspects.
The growth of popularity has been exponential last few months and we have just reached 2 million page views a month. Best Gore gets over 5000 unique type in visitors a day. Type in visitors are people like you – people who bookmarked Best Gore and visit every day (there is a chunk bigger than that sent from search engines and about half that many from referring sites that link to Best Gore). You are the most important part of this website and I would like to offer this opportunity to share success of Best Gore with you. There are two ways for you to do so:
All Registered Members Have Been Upgraded to Contributors
That’s right. Each and every one of you who have registered for an account on Best Gore main site have had their profiles upgraded from Subscribers who can post comments, to Contributors who can post content on Best Gore. This upgrade was applied to absolutely everybody who has registered so far. If you log in to your profile now, you will see new fields there that allow you to post content on Best Gore. Others will be able to comment on what you have posted. Imagine the bragging rights 😉
If you have your own website and are a registered member of Best Gore, send me a message from an email address you have used to register on Best Gore with info about your website and I will post a link to it on the most prominent area above the fold of Best Gore. Depending on a number of requests I get, your link will be there for a period of 1 week to one month with no extra obligations on your part. It will be served on first come, first serve basis. As valued reader of Best Gore, you will get a link to benefit from high traffic this website gets. Please make sure your website is hosted on a powerful enough server as if your link is interesting, incoming traffic may crash it.
A few things to keep in mind:
Only links to quality sites will be posted. No affiliate codes, no pyramid schemes or get rich bullshit. No free iPods, no punch a boxer to win a prize or fill up surveys to make money. Respect the fact that visitors to Best Gore are internet savvy people who know how to use search engines. Don’t offend them with your bullshit. Any requests for bullshit links will be ignored.
On the other hand, personal sites of any sort, quality blogs (no pop up hell, for crying out loud and nothing that installs trojans or has exit consoles or some other user not friendly crap), your own business yu run, etc – those will be linked for free with no obligation on your part. At present time this is only available to people who already have an account an Best Gore. It’s the way to show appreciation to those who supported the site from the beginning. This may be extended in the future, but at present time is limited to our most valued members.
Contributor’s Dos and Don’ts
Title must always be descriptive. It must clearly and undisputedly describe the content. Don’t post generic titles. For example “Bombing in Iraq” is way too generic. Make it clearer so there is no doubt what your post is all about. For example “Bombing in Iraq Leaves Four People Burning Alive in the Street”. Capitalize first letter of each major word in a title. Never post misleading titles ever.
Add any and all tags that relate to the content. Enable readers to find your post easily. If it’s a video of a beheading, make sure you include all relevant tags, such as Beheading, Beheaded, Decapitation, Headless, etc. Everything that a regular reader may search for and would apply to your content should be included in tags.
Expressing your feelings when writing descriptions is fine. It makes it more personal, rather than sounding like general reporting. Instead of saying that “Civilians have been targeted in latest bombing in Baghdad”, try to say “Suicide bombers in Iraq won’t stop at nothing. It almost seems as if they were going for a head count. Targeting not only military objects, but also civilians have become the norm. The bombing in this video shows aftermath of an attack aimed at civilians and many paid for it with their lives. They would be walking down the street to get to work and then “BANG” and half of their head was blown off…….” that’s just an example but that’s basically what descriptions should be like. Make sure you use relevant keywords in the text often. Bombing should be used several times, Iraq as well, war as well, explosion, etc. These words should be reused over and over. Whatever appears in the tags needs to be the most used phrase in the description.
When you’re embedding videos, make sure you are on an HTML tab. If you are on a Visual tab and paste in an embed code, it will be busted. You should be on HTML code at all times. Having some understanding of HTML would help, but is not necessary.
All pictures need to be watermarked before they are uploaded on a server. This can be done with any image editing software. Uploading is easy, if you have experience with WordPress it will be a breeze, otherwise I could show you how to do it. It’s really easy.
You may want to take a test run posting to Chill Out Videos category. Basically anytime you see a cool video, you can post it on Best Gore. It should go to Chill Out Videos category and all you need is an embed code (provided by YouTube, LiveLeak and most others on the same page where video is), paste it there, write a brief description and good title and post it. Once you get a hang of posting on Best Gore, then you can move on to post an actual gory content. If you have previous WordPress experience and feel confident about Gore content, go right ahead. At present time, you all can submit content, but it will not appear on the site immediately. I will review it and approve, unless you abuse the system. After you have posted a couple of usable posts, I will upgrade your account so your post will appear immediately.
Looking forward to hearing from you all :o)
